This shit has gone on way too fucking long in cannabis already, but unfortunately somewhere in America right now a cannabis “marketing team” is pitching what they believe is the boldest brand name ever conceived.
“Guys… hear me out.”
The lights dim.
The slide appears.
DOPE
Everyone at the table nods like they just witnessed the invention of fire.
“Holy shit.”
“That’s powerful.”
“That’s culture.”
What the team does not realize is that roughly half the companies in cannabis, streetwear, and vape hardware already had the exact same galaxy-brain idea.
Which is how the legal system has ended up with what industry attorneys are now calling The Dope Lawsuit Cinematic Universe.
Current Status of the Dope Wars
The situation currently looks something like this:
DOPE LLC is suing Dope Industries
Dope Industries is countersuing Dope Brand
Dope Brand previously sued Dope Clothing
Dope Clothing has been locked in a trademark battle with DOPE Apparel since 2014
DOPE Apparel claims Dope Cannabis Co. is infringing on its brand
Dope Cannabis Co. says the name simply came from “culture”
Meanwhile three new companies named Dope launched this week alone.
One sells pre-rolls.
One sells hoodies.
One sells consulting services to other brands trying to look authentic.
The Naming Process
According to sources inside several cannabis companies, the brainstorming process that leads to the name Dope is surprisingly consistent.
Step 1:Marketing team wants something “authentic to the streets.”
Step 2:Someone says the word dope out loud.
Step 3:Everyone nods for five minutes.
Step 4:The legal department quietly Googles “Dope trademark” and immediately starts sweating.
The Product Situation
The word has now infected nearly every corner of cannabis product naming.
Current offerings include:
Dope OG
Super Dope
Ultra Dope
Dope Runtz
Dope Labs
Dope Club
The Dope Experience
One buyer at a large dispensary admitted the shelves have reached peak Dope.
“We have six different brands named Dope,” he said. “I honestly don’t know which Dope people are asking for anymore.”
Legal Experts Weigh In
Trademark attorneys say the lawsuits could continue indefinitely because the core legal argument in each case is essentially identical.
“We were the most Dope first.”
One federal judge reviewing the cases reportedly paused mid hearing to clarify something.
“So just to confirm,” he asked the courtroom.“You are all suing each other over the word dope?”
The attorneys confirmed yes.
What Comes Next
Despite the ongoing legal chaos, new companies continue launching with the exact same name every month.
In fact, a startup just announced a new premium cannabis line called: D'ope
The founders say the brand represents authenticity, culture, and originality.
Within six hours of the announcement they reportedly received two cease and desist letters from other companies named Dope.
Both letters were signed by lawyers representing Dope.
The court system is expected to sort out the situation sometime around 2038, when every remaining company in the cannabis industry will officially be named Dope.
